Quantity Surveyor (Freelance)

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support our growing portfolio of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will work on a flexible consultancy basis, providing commercial and contractual expertise to ensure projects are delivered profitably, efficiently, and in line with contractual obligations.

We are civil engineering contractor established in 2010 providing a wide range of civil engineering services to both public and private sector clients, specialising in: Groundworks, Utilities, Drainage, Street, Road Works and Environmental Improvements.

Operating across Northern Ireland, our experienced teams have the knowledge and skills to deliver quality, client-focused civil engineering solutions.

 Role Overview

This role will suit a self-motivated individual who enjoys working independently, while collaborating with our Contracts teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, manage, and submit valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
  • Carry out measurement and take-offs from drawings and site surveys.
  • Monitor costs against budgets and provide regular cost reports.
  • Identify, prepare, and submit variations and claims.
  • Support tendering and estimating activities.
  • Liaise with Contracts Director, Site Engineers , Site Managers, and clients to resolve commercial issues.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements.
  • Provide advice on procurement, subcontract management, and contractual risks.

Key Criteria

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying  or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a QS in the civil engineering sector.
  • Strong knowledge of groundworks, roadworks, utilities, and related civil engineering works.
  • Familiarity with NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel essential); knowledge of estimating/takeoff software desirable.
  • Ability to work flexibly and manage workload independently.
