Job Purpose:
As Site Manager you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of all the company civil engineering and groundworks projects on-site, ensuring that works are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the specified quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Lead the execution of groundworks and civil projects including site preparation, drainage, concrete works, utilities and roadworks.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and programmes to manage site activities efficiently.
- Coordinate and manage labour, subcontractors, materials, and plant resources.
Site Supervision
- Supervise and direct the site team including, foremen, plant operators, labourers and subcontractors.
- Conduct daily briefings and toolbox talks; monitor and enforce site rules and safety practices.
- Ensure that construction activities adhere to approved designs and method statements.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSEQ) Compliance
- Maintain high standards of health and safety on-site at all times.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), and HSE legislation.
- Report incidents, near misses, and conduct regular site audits and inspections.
Programme & Quality Control
- Monitor progress against project programmes and report delays or issues to the Contracts manager.
- Ensure works are completed to the highest quality standards and inspect workmanship.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and stakeholders to manage expectations and resolve site issues.
Communication & Reporting
- Maintain clear records of site activities including daily diaries, site instructions, and delivery notes.
- Attend progress meetings with clients, consultants, and senior management.
- Coordinate with Contracts Manager to provide input on variations and change to works.
Person Specification:
Essential Skills, Experience & Qualification
- Proven experience as a Site Manager on civil engineering/groundworks projects (e.g., drainage, roads, utilities).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Valid Driving Licence
Desirable Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management (or equivalent)
- CSCS Black or Gold Card (Site Manager or Supervisor)
- CPCS or NPORS (desirable for understanding plant operations)
